Endodontic treatment /Root Canal treatment/RCT

Root canal is a treatment where your dentist will clean off the canals inside a tooth’s root, to repair and save a badly damaged or infected tooth.

It is conservative approach to save the tooth and prevent extraction

Tooth Crown is a three-layered structure namely – Enamel, Dentin & Pulp.
If the tooth decay is limited to the first two layers, it can be restored with Filling
In case the tooth decay reaches the third layer and causes inflammation or infection of pulp, an RCT is required.

Causes of Root Canal Problems

  • Deep tooth decay – Untreated cavities eventually allow bacteria to work their way down to the center of the tooth where they’ll infect the pulp tissue.
  • Chipped or cracked teeth – Like with tooth decay, any opening in the protective enamel coating may allow bacteria inside to infect the pulp tissue.
  • Trauma to the tooth – Whether it results from a car crash, a sports injury, or something else, any blow to the face can cause pulp tissue damage.
  • Extensive dental work – Even having too much dental work done can cause damage to the pulp tissue. Having multiple fillings or restorations on the same tooth increases the odds that a root canal may need to be performed.

Sign and symptoms of root canal problems

  • Constant pain and pressure in mouth. The pain can range from mild to severe.
  • Prolonged sensitivity to hot and cold
  • Sharp pain when biting food
  • Swelling in gums and Jaws( in some cases)

What if patient do not get the required root canal treatment done on time?

Delayed treatment can lead to increase in infection in oral cavity, it might damageother adjacent teeth also. Sometimes tooth get so damaged and mobile and extraction is only option left.
We at IBC DENTAL discuss whole case with our patient and give detailed information and advice to get timely treatment done.

What Is Re-RCT

  • New infections might happen after a root canal.Various reasons are-
  • More than the normally anticipated number of root canals in a tooth (leaving one of them uncleaned)
  • An undetected crack in the root of a tooth
  • A problem with the restoration or inner sealing material allowing bacteria to recontaminate the inner tooth

Root canal treatment may require either multiple sittings or single sitting depending upon severity of infection. Our team of Dentist at IBC DENTAL will guide you through whole process and number of sitting required after taking digital x ray and diagnosing the situation.
