Orthodontic Treatment means to use brackets(braces) and wires, to align the teeth and jaw by gradually shifting them in their new right position and to provide even bite and pleasing smile, thereby enhancing facial appearance.

When braces are required?

  • When teeth are misaligned(Crowded/overlapped or crooked)

What is right time to get Orthodontic treatment?

Orthodontic treatment can be started at as early as 7 years of age in form of interceptive treatment to modulate the growth of upper and lower jaws with the help of various appliance(Headgear, facebow, chincup)

Maxilla and Mandible Jaws growth completes by age of puberty , so if there is some defect in growth of jaw, it needs to get corrected before growth completion, elseafter that surgical treatment of jaws is only option left.

So, it is advisable to parents to keep track of their children dentition, oral habits and do visit orthodontist at right time to get right treatment.

Oral habits like Mouth breathing, Thumb sucking, Tongue Thrusting, Lip sucking, Lip Biting need to be stopped at right age so as to prevent any further damage. Appliance like Oral Screen, Tongue Rakes and different tongue and lip exercises are told to patient to intercept the habit.

Fixed (braces) Orthodontic treatment usually starts from 12years of age and it has no upper age limit.

Note - CROSS BITE IS AN ORTHODONTIC EMERGENCY.

It should be corrected as early as seen(primary,mixed or permanent dentition), so as to unlock upper jaw (maxilla ) from lower jaw( mandible), thereby providing maxilla to grow without any restriction

How long does it takes to complete braces Treatment?

This is most common question asked by our Ortho (Braces) patients. Treatment time depends on multiple factors like severity of case, age of patient and type of bracket system used etc.
Average treatment time is 18-24 month with braces. . For Invisalign, most patients need around 12-15 months for treatment.
As long as you follow instructions as directed by IBC Dentals, you can have a great chance of speeding up your treatment.

Why are Retainers Necessary and for how much time?

After Dental braces are removed, it is very necessary to stabilize teeth at their new position,because teeth has very high tendency to get back to their original old position (termed as Relapse). This happens because our teeth are in constant contact with gum and periodontium fibers which pull back teeth to their original position.

So to prevent this relapse tendency, retainers are required.
Retainers can be removable (Hawley’s orEssix Retainer( made of clear material offer an” invisible look”)) or Fixed (Bonded Lingual Retainer).
Combination of fixed and removable retainer are used at the end of treatment.
Duration of Retainer: – This depends upon type and severity of case. Retention period can vary from few years to lifetime retention.

How can I straighten my teeth without braces?
